Good News / Bad News

The Good News: The apartment managers have finally decided to do something about the huge cockroach problem in the building. It doesn’t matter how clean you keep your own apartment, since there are so many in the building they manage to find their way in. And they are disgusting. I just moved into this unit a couple of weeks ago and already saw my first critter in this apartment. And my new apartment is, like, extra clean. Yuck! I hate the fuckers!
The Bad News: There are a lot of requirements for preparing our apartment units for the impending critter elimination. The apartment managers left this note on the door which explains all of the steps. And this wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t for the fact that I don’t have a whole lot of time, nor space, to do these steps.
The largest step, which sounds rather innocuous, is to “Move items from around the hot water heater.” The water heater (I hate the redundancy of “hot water heater.” If the water’s already hot, why do you need a heater for it?) is in the storage closet and I have that absolutely full, to the brim, with my things. Now, this has to be cleared out by 8 AM on Friday. Me, I get up at 5:30 AM to go to work so I’ll have to do this on Thursday night before I go to bed. My apartment is tiny and I have no idea where I am going to put all of these things so that I won’t be forced to sleep by hanging from the ceiling like a bat–that being the only place in the apartment not littered with clutter.
Oh, and we have to leave the apartment for four hours. Hopefully they’ll be done while I’m at work because I’ll be really annoyed if I come home from work, sit down and get comfortable, only to be told to vacate so that some stranger can wander around my apartment assassinating icky critters.
