Work Annoyances

On Friday I left work rather pissed off. Luis, the foreman, came to me toward the end of the day and, in a confrontational manner, asked me how many apartment units I had put putty in in a particular building on Wednesday. I told him I didn’t know and that I didn’t even remember what I had done on Wednesday. He then went on to say that I had told him I puttied (filling nail holes with putty) two apartment units in building ‘K’ but that Julio had just puttied five units over there (apparently meaning that I couldn’t have puttied those two units).
I told him that I didn’t recall having done any puttying on Wednesday or telling him that I had done such. He pretty much dropped it at that point, since I couldn’t remember, and we both went back to work. I didn’t like the way that he was speaking to me about this so I decided to go ask him if he thought that I was lying about doing this or what. He said, “If you don’t remember, I can’t say anything.” I think he may have also said something which sounded like “I’m not saying you are lying,” (his accent makes him difficult to understand sometimes). I replied to that with, “Well, it sure does sound like it.” We both dropped it at that point.
The whole conversation bugged me for the entire weekend, and I usually try not to think about work when I’m not actually at work. When I had gotten home from work on Friday I decided to check my time sheet, which I update daily. On it I write what I do each day. As I had thought, the only day that I had done any puttying was on Monday, and it wasn’t in that building. In fact, I haven’t applied putty in that unit yet, aside from a few minutes that I spent in there applying putty to trim that had just been installed. The trim wasn’t even done being installed, so there wasn’t much to apply. I never even mentioned that unit to Luis. On a side note, all of that trim ended up being torn out because Andy, the guy that had installed it, did a terrible job at doing so.
Anyways, the whole thing bugged me over the weekend. I don’t like being accused of lying. I was also worried that Luis would go to the-powers-that-be and complain about me. To nip that in the bud I sent an email to the-powers-that-be yesterday, explaining what had transpired. In my personal experience, if you are told two different sides to an argument at different times, the first side that you hear will most likely be the one that you will support. Even if you don’t support that side, at least my side is heard without having to argue against anything.
So, I went to work today thinking that Luis would be a pain in my ass today. Not cause of the email but just… I don’t know. I suppose, just still annoyed about Friday, like I was. I also wasn’t looking forward to another day of installing trim and being under his constant scrutiny, which seems to be the way things are with him. Luckily, though, I got the task of installing medicine cabinets, which are comparatively far easier to do. I also did this all day and had very little contact with Luis at all. It made for a nice day.
