Work, Jared, Bunnies, DVDs, and Applebee’s

A guy at work may have quit today after having only worked two weeks. He was kind of cool, though I didn’t really work with him too much. He had a thick accent, though his wasn’t Spanish. His name was Sergei (I’m not sure if that’s spelled properly or not) and his accent was either Ukrainian or Russian (or something similar). He told me a few days ago that he figured that Friday would be his last day. He was tired of our boss, Luis, being on his case all the time; telling him to hurry up and such. I told him that I felt the same way when I started, though I didn’t want to quit, and that Luis kind of laid off on pestering me so much after a month or so. Sergei seemed to have a plan of just doing his own thing. I guess he was going to start working alone as a carpenter. I hope that works out for him, but somehow I doubt it. I wonder if he gave notice at all or if he’s just going to be a no-show on Monday. It’s so not cool when people pull the no-show maneuver. It’s really unprofessional. I mean, sure, you feel like you’re sticking it to the man when you do that, but you are also sticking it to all of your coworkers, who then hate you as a result.

Work has been getting easier for me lately. I spend most of my day by myself, working away. Luis just comes to see how things are going every once in a while. I’ll typically only see him for a few minutes at the start of the day and a few times throughout the day. Otherwise, I’m pretty much left to myself, which is a huge stress relief. I hate when people hover over me. I work faster when I’m left alone too. I get nervous when I’m being watched. Plus, it’s nice to feel like the boss-man has some degree of confidence in my work.

In other news…

Jared and I had dinner together tonight at Applebee’s. Pretty much once a month he and I will go out to eat together and get caught up on each others lives. When I got to his apartment to pick him up he wasn’t quite ready to go. He was on the phone with his fiancé who was stuck somewhere in Seattle with a near-empty gas tank and no idea where to find a gas station. Jared, with the aid of Google Maps, saved the day. While I waited I stole back yet another movie of mine that Jared had at his place for some inexplicable reason. So far I have re-obtained Fargo, The Goonies, Boogie Nights, 28 Days Later, and most recently, School of Rock. To the best of my knowledge, I now have ALL of my DVDs back.

I should say that Jared didn’t steal these movies. He had them and didn’t even realize that he had them. He’s a little lacking in being organized in that manner so it never occurred to him that the videos weren’t his. The movies have been missing for so long that none of them were listed on my more recent cataloguing of movies. They’ve been missing since before we both moved out of the apartment that we shared. I suspect that his fiancé borrowed them at some point, not realizing that they were mine. When they moved in together they just became part of their unified collection. I didn’t notice the movies were gone because they weren’t on my lists. It wasn’t until certain times where I either wanted to watch one of the movies or would want to look at the cover of one, because I couldn’t remember an actor’s name, that I would notice that it was missing. I’d then ask my friends if they had it. Eventually it would be discovered that they were in Jared’s possession. At any rate, I think I have them all back now.

Before we left for Applebee’s Jared asked me if I wanted to hold one of their bunnies. I said sure and he went to task wrangling up one of the critters. I told him that I wasn’t sure if I was allergic to rabbits or not. I know that I am allergic to dogs and cats. Cats, though I love them, make me miserable. My eyes will water and my asthma will act up for hours or even days after any sort of exposure. Even exposure to a home that has had a cat which at the time isn’t present. It’s bad. Anyways, I held the cute boy-bunny named “Tony.” He was a little wiggly at first but calmed down pretty quickly. Jared told me that I needed to hold him in a manner in which he could sort of clutch onto me or he’d try to kick. I held him like I’d hold a baby… a very small baby, I suppose. He seemed pretty secure and didn’t try to kick at all. He looked up at me a few times with his big brown eyes and I wanted to keep him. Yes, I’ll admit, I even talked baby-talk to him. I hate baby-talk. But I mostly hate it because I think it teaches kids to speak English improperly. If the bunny starts speaking using poor grammar, I’ll worry then. Until then, I’m not concerned.

When Jared and I got to Applebee’s we had to wait a little while to be seated. I hate Friday evenings sometimes. It’s just so crowded at any and all restaurants. And Friday nights are pretty much the only time that we both have available to get together. After we were seated, though, we had a good time. We BS’ed about jynxs and superstitions, in honor of Friday the 13th. We also talked about some political things since I’m finally developing a bit of an interest in political affairs and current events due to listening to talk radio in the mornings while I’m at work. I think Jared may have enjoyed the conversation more too since this is usually the type of thing that Jared prefers to talk about. We talked about work briefly but neither one of us really likes talking about work that much. We deal with that all day long and don’t need to deal with it even more when we get home.

I think that’s about it.

Oh, by the way, I never had an allergic reaction to my contact with the bunny so I think I’m safe around them. Nice.
