I’ve gone on a couple of dates lately. I went on one last Wednesday, I believe. His name was José… well, I suppose that is still his name. At any rate, we met online and decided to go out to eat. The first problem was that we went out on a day where I didn’t have the following day off of work so we had limited time. After we ate we were going to see Forgetting Sarah Marshall but we just missed the 5 PM showing and any other showing would have been too late for me. I wasn’t too disappointed since I just wasn’t into him at all. There was no chemistry at all. For a while there I felt like he may be interested in me but I think that waned after a while. When we missed the movie I stupidly suggested we see it on Friday night but we never did. Neither of us bothered to call or email the other.

Today I went on a coffee date with a guy named Thanh. He’s Vietnamese. I had a faux pas moment when, while we were talking via email I asked him what his name was; he told me and pointed out that he had closed one of his emails with his name. I told him that I had thought he was just writing “Thanks” and had misspelled it. I don’t think he took offense. I’ve never seen the name Thanh before. I’m so socially and ethnically challenged.

Anyways, the coffee date with Thanh went well at first but I think he started losing any and all interest in me as we talked. He was pretty cute though. Too bad. His body language started telling me he just wasn’t interested after a while… and when he abruptly decided that he needed to go grocery shopping I took that as my not-so-subtle hint that this date was a dud.

I left that date wondering what, if anything, I have to offer to a relationship. I couldn’t think of anything. I may stave off on dating for a while until I can get some confidence in myself and put my life back together a bit. I felt like a loser as we were both talking about ourselves. I wouldn’t even date me.
